Name: Francis Crozier Door: TDM pass - Dominant Canon: The Terror Canon Point: After Silna saves him from his encounter with Tuunbaq and begins nursing him back to health Age: 51 Appearance: general, when he enters Duplicity History: here During his time in Duplicity, he has forged new understanding between his former steward and his sexuality. He's also found a niche in his second life as a professional Dom who specializes in daddy kink and non-sexual domestic services. He also has remained frequently sober since his last few months in Duplicity, which has diminished his ordinarily caustic attitude. He's become more dependable and thoughtful with newer friendships. CR AU (Optional): N/A Personality: Dutiful: Crozier is the only commanding officer on the expedition that keeps all 127 crewmembers under his leadership at the forefront of his decision-making. Early in the series, when the lives of his men and the future of the expedition are at a crossroads, he suggests that they play it safe and return to an early checkpoint. It would look like a loss to English admiralty, but Crozier believes the crew's safety is more important. He also defies his commanding officer's decision not to send out a rescue team by signing his resignation and leading a small team of his own to find help for everyone. He promises to take all the responsibility and any punishments that fall on them. Down the line, he continues to shoulder his weight when they must travel the 800 miles on foot, dragging heavy boats full of supplies behind them. And when hard decisions must be made, or new challenges are introduced (like the promise of an earlier rescue team meeting them halfway), he acts on behalf of the greater good for his crews' continual morale, even if he must lie to them. However, one thing he is adamant about is that they will never leave a sick man behind. No one will be abandoned under his command. Resentful: Despite his forty years of experience as a dutiful officer in Her Majesty's Royal Navy, as well as his significant contributions to the fields of magnetism and astronomy, Crozier's Irish heritage has kept him othered by English society. He has had to work twice as hard as his English peers to obtain a mere fraction of the recognition he believes he is owed. This is most apparent in how the commanding officer of his Arctic expedition, Sir John Franklin, and his wife treat him. They will not allow their niece, Sophia Cracroft, to marry Crozier because of his breeding. Franklin states that Crozier would be a fine husband for many good women, but not under their family's banner. Because of this prejudice, he has been rebuffed twice by Sophia when proposing to her. This mark of inadequacy as an Irishman has poisoned him to his core. His sour disposition, his bad temper, and his alcoholism, all stem from resentment. Resentment when in presence of younger officers he believes are not worthy of their rank, resentment for being patronized and condescended to for his heritage, and resentment when his logical and empirical opinions are taken with a grain of salt in the face of real danger. It has turned him into a cantankerous, resentful alcoholic with few friends. Quarrelsome: When Crozier doesn't like someone, it becomes everyone's problem. His tolerance for playing a civil role in the face of a person with an outcome he doesn't like is low. There is one character in the series, Fitzjames, whom Crozier does not like. When they are forced to share company, Crozier will make biting comments during the man's stories. He has also lost his temper with Fitzjames on a couple of occasions, slamming his hand on the table during a heated debate. And when confronted by perceived disrespect from Fitzjames, Crozier sucker punches him in front of other officers. These bursts of anger and blunt displays of dislike continually make his fellow officers uncomfortable, and it also undermines his good decision-making. Alcoholic: His dependency on whiskey is a poorly kept secret among the crew. It is a running joke between some sailors that Crozier will find any excuse to pour another man a drink if it means he can have one, too. His addiction only serves to undermine his authority further. It also causes him to make irresponsible decisions that further alienate him from his fellow commanding officers. At one point, he colludes with one of his loyal crew members to steal what's left of the whiskey from the other ship's larder. And when it matters most, he would often miss regular meetings with his commanding officers because of his long drunken stupors. Powers and Abilities: He has basic naval training from the Victorian era, as well as decades of experience in marksmanship, sailing, and marine navigation Inventory:
